Wake County man plans to buy Toyota, throw party after winning top prize in NC Lottery digital instant game

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — Some people want to celebrate lavishly after they win the lottery. Others lean toward being more practical. For a Wake County man who recently won a big prize, he plans to be a little of both.

Prabin Kurmi of Cary on Monday played $2 in the 20 Years Celebration Digital Instant Game offered by the North Carolina Education Lottery. He ended up winning the game’s top prize of $200,000 on that spin. NC Lottery said the odds of that happening were 1 in 20 million.

Now, Kurmi is ready to celebrate.

“I’m going to have a party,” Kurmi said, adding that he also plans to buy a Toyota with his prize money.

On Tuesday, Kurmi visited NC Lottery headquarters in Raleigh to claim his winnings. He took home $144,021 after the required state and federal taxes.

It’s the second time in less than two years that the lucky Cary man has won big money playing the lottery. Kurmi won over $22,000 playing Carolina Keno last year, according to NC Lottery.
