WARRENTON, N.C. (WNCN) — After coming back from a trip to New York, a Warren County man learned he won $1 million from Powerball, lottery officials said.

According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, George Boston of Warrenton bought a $2 ticket from Tobacco Plus on East Macon Street in Warrenton before going to New York.
The ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls in the July 25 drawing to secure the $1 prize, a 1 in 11.6 million victory.
“When I came back, I heard that there was a winner in Warrenton,” Boston said in a statement. “I looked at my ticket on the table and went, ‘Oh wow, I got a match’.”

After attempting to reach his wife and children about his prize, according to NC Lottery, Boston’s daughter called back first.
“I’m a winner, I’m a winner,” Boston told his daughter.

Boston visited lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday. He received $720,101 after the required federal and state tax withholdings.
Lottery officials said Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot can be claimed as a $48 million annuity or $20.8 million in cash. The odds of winning are 1 in 292 million.
