The clouds that moved in overnight kept temperatures mild compared to the past few mornings. While today will be cloudy, we don’t have to worry about rain bringing issues to your Friday night plans, however rain arrives this weekend. Saturday will start cloudy bur rain free, however by the afternoon light rain showers will arrive from south to north. The better rain chances arrive overnight into Sunday morning. While Sunday morning will have most of the rain, even heavy at times, we still expect scattered rain and storms through the afternoon. Central North Carolina is outlined in a marginal risk of severe weather Sunday as an isolated storm could produce damaging wind gusts or even an isolated tornado, although that threat looks to be focused along I-95 and out toward the coast at this time. In terms of how much rain to expect: 1-2″ should be widespread across the area with heavier amounts east toward the coast.

This is all due to Hurricane Isaias. It will make landfall later tonight, possibly as a category 3 near the Alabama/Florida state line. It’s the first hurricane of the season and will make a run at major hurricane status before moving ashore somewhere along the Alabama and Florida Panhandle coasts late Friday night. As it moves north as a tropical depression, the moisture and impacts will still move toward North Carolina.

Once the system passes by, much of next week will be on the dry side with highs in the 70s and 80s. Good news for the start of the NC State Fair on Thursday!
