Wake Tech Eagles baseball team heads to first NJCAA World Series tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Wake Tech Eagles baseball team left for a bus to Oklahoma on Wednesday to make their first college World Series tournament appearance.

The Eagles won their first National Junior College Athletic Association Region 10 Division II championship with a victory over Brunswick Community College, earning them a spot in the NJCAA World Series, according to the school.

“This championship is about more than wins,” Wake Tech Athletic Director Robin Pate said in a statement. “Our student‑athletes are succeeding academically and athletically and that balance is something we are incredibly proud of at Wake Tech.”

Wake Tech enters the tournament as the 12th seed. They will play fifth-seeded East Central Community College in the first round.

The game is scheduled to take place at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma, on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST. It can be streamed with a digital ticket purchase through the NJCAA Network, and the results will be updated in real-time online.

“This is an incredible achievement for our program,” head coach DJ Russ said before the Eagles left for the series. “Our players have worked hard all season and the support we saw this morning means a lot as we head to Oklahoma.”
