Severe thunderstorm watch issued Monday night for parts of central NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — As storms are expected to move through central North Carolina Monday night on what is a CBS 17 Alert Day, the National Weather Service in Raleigh has placed several counties under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Several counties from the Triad to the Triangle are impacted, including Wake, Durham, Orange and Nash. The severe thunderstorm watch is expected to be in effect until 11 p.m.

As of 7 p.m., the line of storms is currently west of the Triangle and moving east. The most severe of the storms are expected to stay in the northern part of central NC, with Fayetteville and the Sandhills expected to get mostly rain from the system.
