CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two people have been rushed to the hospital after a two-alarm fire burned several apartments, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

Around 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, Charlotte Fire said its crews were responding to a large fire in the 6000 block of Delta Crossing Lane. This is at an apartment complex off East W.T. Harris Boulevard.
Firefighters arrived to see heavy fire, and a second alarm was called, bringing additional crews to help.
It took 60 firefighters 51 minutes to control the blaze. Firefighters rescued two people and one pet from the building.
Officials say one person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a second person was also taken to the hospital.

In total, eight apartments were damaged. The Red Cross is helping those who were displaced.
East W.T. Harris Boulevard was closed between Albermarle Road and North Sharon Amity Road during the incident.
Fire officials believe the fire started on the outside of the building near a common entryway. As a result, firefighters had to rescue those trapped since the only way to escape the building was blocked by the fire.
Investigators say this was not a criminal incident. The fire is still under investigation.

It is estimated that the fire caused $275,000 worth of damage.
