RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several areas of central North Carolina on Sunday afternoon, including part of Wake County.

The warning was issued until 4:45 p.m. for Northwestern Harnett County, Northeastern Lee County, Southwestern Wake County, and Southeastern Chatham County, according to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh.
Forecasters said the warning was triggered just after 4 p.m. by a severe thunderstorm located 9 miles east of Sanford, moving east at 10 mph.

The warning said the main threats from the storm are 60 mph wind gusts and nickel-sized hail.
“Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees,” the warning said.

The area of the warning included Lillington, Fuquay-Varina, Broadway, Harris Lake Boat Launch, Seminole, Raven Rock State Park, Shearon Harris Reservoir, and Duncan.
