Central NC hot weather continues with strong storms possible

The very hot and humid weather continues for at least one more day before temperatures feel more seasonal for this time of year. While highs this week will still be hot, it will be mid-90s hot instead of triple-digit hot.

Monday will still be very hot with highs in the upper 90s with high humidity, but the high pressure that has been suppressing rain is finally starting to break down.

This means while Monday is still going to be an uncomfortably hot day, more showers and storms are expected to develop by the afternoon and into the evening. This is not a widespread rain event, but any storm that forms will be capable of producing torrential downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.

By the middle of next week, the historic heat wave will be behind us, but summer isn’t going anywhere. High temperatures settle back into the lower to middle 90s, much closer to normal for early July, while humidity remains high.

Expect the return of a more typical summertime pattern with a daily chance for isolated to scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms, offering occasional relief from the heat but not ending it altogether.
