ABERDEEN, N.C. (WNCN) — The owner of a restaurant in Moore County was arrested Tuesday in connection with the theft of more than $100,000 in sales taxes, the North Carolina Department of Revenue said.

According to the NCDOR, 37-year-old Ioannis “Yianni” Panagiotis Kakouras of Carthage is the president of Euros, Inc., which does business as Mac’s Breakfast Anytime in Aberdeen.
From Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2025, according to the NCDOR, Kakouras is accused of aiding and abetting the company in embezzling, misapplying, and converting $108,874 in North Carolina sales taxes to its own use.

Kakouras also allegedly did not file a state tax return for the restaurant for 2023 and 2024 and did not file an individual state tax return for 2022, 2023, and 2024, according to the NCDOR.

Court records show Kakouras was indicted in Wake County Superior Court on July 14 on the three felony counts of aiding and abetting the embezzlement of state property and five misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file/pay income tax or supply information.
According to court records, Kakouras was taken into custody on Tuesday, a day after his indictment, and was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond the same day.
Kakouras is scheduled to make his first appearance in Wake County court on Aug. 17, according to records.
