The study from WalletHub analyzed the 50 states and Washington, D.C. across 24 metrics, including teacher income growth potential, student-teacher ration, and public school spending per student.
North Carolina ranked 44th in the study with a total score of 41.22, according to the study.

According to the study, North Carolina is 22nd in average starting salary for teachers, 29th in quality of school system, 33rd in average salary for teachers, 36th in work environment, 37th in student-teacher ratio, 38th in opportunity and competition, 40th in 10-year change in teacher salaries, 46th in public school spending per student, and 49th in teachers’ income growth potential.
The study found Washington state to the best for teachers with an average score of 61.60. New Hampshire is the worst state for teachers with an average score of 36.65.
