Wake Forest to host fourth annual Mental Wellness Fair

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) — The Town of Wake Forest will host its fourth annual Mental Wellness Fair on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre at 405 S. Brooks St.

Spearheaded by Commissioner Nick Sliwinski, the event aims to raise awareness of mental health and provide valuable information on community programs, services, and resources for those facing mental health challenges.

This year’s fair will center on youth mental health.

The Wake County Youth Health Council will lead a panel discussion titled “Plugged In: Conversation about Kids, Technology & Mental Health” from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in one of two interactive breakout sessions scheduled from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One session, led by teenagers, will discuss “Social Media Burnout”. At the same time, the other will introduce a new initiative called “Well Check Wednesday”, encouraging individuals to pause mid-week to assess their mental and physical health and check in on others.

The fair will feature more than 30 vendor advocates, providing resources on a range of topics, including depression, suicide prevention, holiday grief, veterans’ services, and general wellness. Families, seniors, and veterans are especially encouraged to attend and access support services.

WakeMed will offer free blood pressure screenings and the NC State Cooperative Extension’s Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program will conduct a healthy cooking demonstration featuring fresh produce from the Ripe for Revival Mobile Market.

The Wake Forest Police Department will also be on site to exhibit two community resource vehicles: the opioid/drug Use unit and the mental wellness unit. Crisis intervention officers will be available to provide support and information.

The Mental Wellness Fair is free and open to everyone, whether seeking help or looking to support others. While preregistration is encouraged, it is not required. Those interested may complete the online sign-up form here.
