BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — Rep. Chuck Edwards announced Wednesday morning that he is withdrawing from his re-election campaign and confirmed he will complete his current term representing Western North Carolina in the United States House of Representatives.

The congressman shared the announcement on his Facebook account, citing personal reflection and conversations with his family as primary factors in the decision to end his campaign.
This decision comes days after the House Ethics Committee recommended Monday that Edwards be censured after finding that he engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct toward two young female aides in his congressional office.
Rep. Chuck Edwards noted that the decision was made after a period of prayer and discussion. “After much prayer, thoughtful reflection, and many conversations with my family, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from my re-election campaign,” Edwards said. “I will complete my current term.”
Edwards said his tenure was defined by a commitment to the region.
“Serving the people of Western North Carolina has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Edwards said. “I ran for Congress with one purpose: to serve this nation, defend our Constitution, and fight for the common people living in these mountains.”
The congressman recognized the impact of public service on his family and supporters, specifically mentioning his wife, Teresa. “Public service always requires sacrifice—not only from those who serve, but from their spouses, families, volunteers and supporters,” Edwards said.
He concluded his statement by expressing gratitude for those who provided encouragement and friendship during his time in office.
“While my campaign is ending, my love for the people of Western North Carolina and my faith in America’s future remain as strong as ever,” Edwards said.
